In the transportation sector, which has 14% share in total energy consumption in our country, in the context of the project aiming to carry out tasks providing efficiency and to reduce the amount of energy consumed in this area, reducing the energy consumption of non-renewable fuels for motor vehicles, increasing the share of rail transportation in public transportation and freight transport, avoiding unnecessary fuel consumption in urban transport and reducing the level of harmful gas emissions released to nature are among the most important objectives.

In case of continuation of the growth trend within the last 25 years in Turkey, the present level of passenger traffic is estimated to be multiplied by about 3.3 (540 billion passengers/km), while the freight traffic is estimated to be multiplied by 2.5 (300 billion tons/km) and regarding this estimation of multiplication, the importance of the "Energy Efficient Transport Project" comes into prominence in the perspective of enhancing efforts for increasing energy efficiency in the transport sector.
